Repeater abuse - the Golden rule |
We are sure that you are as
concerned as we are about repeater abuse. Never, ever; respond to repeater abuse on the air, even when the abusers are not apparently around. Any reference to abuse just encourages it more as repeater abusers are attention seekers and vandals of the airwaves. The more they disrupt and provoke a response, the better they like it. When they can disrupt communication through the repeater completely and even make licensees lose their temper, it gives them a real kick. These sad people get their enjoyment by spoiling the fun of others but, if they get no response, they will give up. Our group monitors all our repeaters and maintains comprehensive records and when a particular abuser begins to feature regularly then a report may be put into the enforcement authorities. In serious cases of abuse, direction finding measures may be implemented. In such severe cases we liaise closely with Ofcom and RSGB. If we all follow the golden rule then we will go a long way to limiting, if not completely, preventing abuse. Please help us by following the golden rule and please feel free to pass on this information as widely as possible. If you want to help further or have vital information that will help to curb abuse then please feel free to contact me. 73 Geoff Dover - G4AFJ, Chairman |
