Featuring Richard Fairhurst

Wednesday 15th November

Leicester based Richard Fairhurst is a classically trained pianist, nationally known for his Hungry Ants modern jazz quartet. Tonight he reveals his new quintet, playing a more accessible set of Wayne Shorter compositions. Wayne Shorter is best known for his sax and composition work with the popular ’70’s jazz-rock fusion band Weather Report (who wrote Birdland ), and also appears on the latest Santana album. Wayne Shorter’s compositions make stunning use of sometimes brooding modern jazz harmonies.

The quintet is Rob Townsend sax, Dave Priseman trumpet, Richard Fairhurst piano, Dave Whitford bass, and Tim Giles drums.

Richard Fairhurst was broadcast worldwide at BBC Music Live, and was a finalist at the Montreux Jazz Festival competition for under-27 year old pianists.
